Spike on fans unable to enjoy Embiid's 70: 'Why even watch sports?'

Joel Embiid set a Sixers' record with a ridiculous 70-point performance on Monday night in a win over the Spurs, but yet some fans could not enjoy it because they are waiting to see if Embiid can finally get past the second-round of the playoffs before celebrating him.

New 94WIP Afternoon Show host Spike Eskin thinks that viewpoint is ridiculous.

"Of course, when you say anything about him all you hear back is, 'I want to see him do it in the playoffs.' What a miserable existence that must be. To watch this guy score 70 points," Eskin said on Tuesday's 94WIP Afternoon Show with Ike Reese and Jack Fritz. "70! In one game. By the way, he made one three pointer and still scored 70 points at home in a win. It wasn't like they lost the game or something like that.

"Your entire reaction is, 'I want to see how he plays in fourth months.' What are you even watching sports for? Do you know what I'm saying? Obviously, we all think he needs to perform in the playoffs, but that doesn't mean this doesn't count and this doesn't matter."

Reese asked Eskin if he believes saying, 'Embiid must perform in the playoffs' is fair?

"He can't play a May game in January," Eskin replied. "The only game he could play last night was the game in front of him and if you don't think that he knows he has to perform in the playoffs, then you're crazy. We all know that he has to perform in the playoffs. It's not that it's not fair, it's just seems like a waste of time to me.

"I just think he's earned the benefit of the doubt to understand that we can enjoy him doing this and give him the chance to do it in the playoffs. There are so many players in NBA history, great players, who either never won a championship or didn't win until his age or older than his age...For him to be remembered as an all-time, all-time, he's going to have to do that."
