The NBA Trade Deadline is one week away and all eyes are on Philadelphia 76ers president Daryl Morey.
Future 94WIP Afternoon Show co-host and Rights To Ricky Sanchez podcast host Spike Eskin believes the team is better suited to wait until the offseason to go "all-in" for a major piece than to do it now.
"I would still, I think all things considered, I think all-in this summer gets you more than all-in at the deadline does," Eskin said on Wednesday's 94WIP Afternoon Show. "If I'm gonna go all-in one time, if I'm going to take every pick I have and use every bit of cap space, I think I would rather do it this Summer when I have more and I can get more than I would this year."
Sixers star center Joel Embiid is now out with a knee injury, after re-injuring his knee in Tuesday's game at Golden State. He will be reevaluated this week, but the injury appears to be at least somewhat serious, causing even more uncertainty for Morey as the deadline approaches.
Big names that have been mentioned as possible trade options—some likely more realistic than others—this deadline include: Dejounte Murray, Kyle Lowry, Jimmy Butler, Alex Caruso, Buddy Hield, Zach Lavine, Malcolm Brogdon, Jordan Clarkson.
With Embiid and Tyrese Maxey missing multiple games of late, the Sixers have lost four straight and have fallen to 29-17, which puts them 5th in the East behind the Cavs, Knicks, and Bucks—although all four of the teams are separated by just 2.0 games. The Boston Celtics have a dominant 5.0 game lead in the Eastern Conference.
