Ben Simmons refusing to discuss mental readiness with 76ers team docs: report

The friction between Ben Simmons and the Philadelphia 76ers does not seem to be waning.

According to an ESPN report from Ramona Shelburne and Adrian Wojnarowski,  Simmons continues to meet with team doctors to treat a back issue but is refusing to accept help from the organization to discuss his mental readiness.

His unwillingness to meet with the team doctors on his mental health is increasingly frustrating those within the organization, per the report.

Last month, a report came out that the 76ers believed Simmons was fabricating injuries and mental health issues, although Tuesday's ESPN report confirmed the All-Star point guard has been working with mental health professionals provided by the National Basketball Players Association since the summer.

Simmons has not disclosed the details of those meetings to the team, though, but is expected to provide the team updates on his progress once he is comfortable, sources told Shelburne and Wojnarwoski.

Meanwhile, the Sixers are eager to help Simmons so he can return to the team.

While Simmons has been attending the 76ers' practice facility in Camden, New Jersey on a regular basis he has not rejoined full team activities and it is unclear when he will be ready to do so. He has engaged with teammates and coaches individually, though, per the report.

Simmons and the Sixer have been at a standstill since the summer when the point guard requested a trade and refused to show up to training camp or preseason practices.

He accumulated nearly $2 million in fines during his holdout before returning to the team prior to the start of the season.

His return created more drama after head coach Doc Rivers dismissed Simmons from a practice and suspended him one game for conduct detrimental to the team after he refused to participate in a drill.

Simmons has yet to play a game this season as his situation continues to be monitored closely by fans and those around the league.
