Temple University's basketball program is interesting in hiring Philadelphia 76ers' assistant coach Sam Cassell to be their next head coach, according to NBA writer Michael Scotto.

Cassell, 53, is in his 14th season as an NBA assistant coach and third with the Sixers. The Baltimore native played in the NBA from 1993 to 2009 winning three NBA titles. He then immediately joined the league as an assistant coach, starting with the Washington Wizards and then going to the Los Angeles Clippers from 2014 to 2020.

On March 13th, Temple announced head coach and former Sixer Aaron McKie was stepping down and taking on a new role as special advisor.

The Owls were 52-56 during McKie's four-year head coaching tenure and failed to reach the NCAA Tournament during that span.
