In order to land an impact free agent, however the Cowboys will need to clear cap space.

The easiest way to do that at the moment, would be to restructure the contract of quarterback Dak Prescott, which could clear up to $22 million off of the books.

And according to reports, the Cowboys plan to do even more than that with Stephen Jones telling ESPN's Todd Archer that the franchise intends to extend quarterback Dak Prescott.

"We've got to have a plan to ultimately extend Dak," Jones told Archer.

Currently, Prescott is set to count just over $49 million against the Cowboys' cap, but according to the report, if the Cowboys indeed extend Prescott, it could create even more space.

"Prescott is set to count $49.2 million against the 2023 salary cap," Archer said in the report. "He is signed through 2024. If the Cowboys restructure Prescott's contract this year, they can create up to $22 million in cap space. With an extension, they could create even more room."

However, that is not the only move on the Cowboys minds this offseason.

Another top priority for Dallas? Getting Prescott some help.

"Offensively, we've just got to have, maybe add a playmaker to it," Jones said. "Add a little juice. Add a playmaker to it and see if we can do that."
