Merrill Reese not surprised 49ers are small favorites at Eagles

Many Eagles fans were floored to see the San Francisco 49ers open as small favorites over Philadelphia in Sunday's NFC Championship rematch at the Linc. Merrill Reese, however, is not surprised.

"It doesn't [surprise me] because they have been demolishing opponents," the legendary Eagles radio play-by-play announcer told Hugh Douglas and Joe Giglio on Monday's 94WIP Midday Show. "They have been winning some big, big games and they look so strong right now."

Reese was also very complimentary of 49ers QB Brock Purdy, who is the 6th favorite to win NFL MVP. Jalen Hurts is the favorite.

"I wouldn't say that he is a top seven or eight quarterback right now, but he has gone beyond the "game manager" type of title or description," Reese said of Purdy. "He is a guy who can read the defense very, very well and he is a very accurate passer and he can run from time to time when he has to. He is pretty good."

Purdy is completing over 70-percent of his passes this season. He has thrown for 2,871 yards, 19 touchdowns and just six interceptions in 11 games, leading San Fran to an 8-3 record.

The 10-1 Eagles are currently 1.5-point underdogs at home on Sunday vs. the 49ers, on FanDuel Sportsbook.
