The 49ers are getting healthy at wide receiver and are surprisingly releasing veteran WR Mohamed Sanu, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Rapoport adds it's very rare for a quality, veteran WR to become available as a free-agent.
Of course, all eyes immediately turn to the Eagles who are decimated by injury at the wide receiver position. Alshon Jeffery, DeSean Jackson, J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, and Jalen Reagor all missed last Sunday's game. Reagor is on injured reserve with a thumb injury, while Jeffery, Jackson, and JJAW could all return soon. However, Jeffery and Jackson have been battling injuries on and off for the past couple of season and do not provide much reliability for the Eagles.
This week the Eagles were forced to give considerable playing time to late-round rookie John Hightower and 2019 sixth-round pick Travis Fulgham.
Sanu, 31, has just one catch in three games this season with San Fran, but has had a productive NFL career. The 6'2" wideout caught 59 balls for 520 yards last season — half with the Falcons, half with the Patriots. Sanu has been healthy for the majority of his career and has accumulated over 500 receiving yards in each of the last four seasons.
