The Philadelphia 76ers have traded Matisse Thybulle to the Portland Trail Blazers for Charlotte Hornets forward Jalen McDaniels, while the Hornets will receive multiple second-round picks and Svi Mykhailiuk.
According to spotrac.com, McDaniels has a 2022-23 base salary of $1,930,68, while Thybulle has a 2022-23 base salary of $4,379,527, saving the Sixers some money. ESPN's Bobby Marks points out the move will put the Sixers below the luxury tax.
McDaniels, 25, was a 2019 second-round pick of the Hornets out of San Diego State. This season, he is averaging a 10.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game, all career-highs. For his career, McDaniels is a 34.2-percent three-point shooter on 2.5 attempts per game.
Thybulle, 25, was the Sixers' 20th overall pick in 2019, the same draft as McDaniels. Thybulle's career has been a downward trajectory, however, as he is averaging a career low 2.7 points and 12.1 minutes per game this season with the Sixers.
