We’ll take disgruntled quarterbacks for $1000.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Aaron Rodgers has become so dismayed with the Green Bay Packers that he has told some within the organization that he does not want to return to the team.
Rodgers, 37, is the reigning league MVP and is under contract through the 2023 season, when he will be 40.
There were reports earlier on Thursday that the San Francisco 49ers reached out to the Packers regarding Rodgers, but there is “zero percent chance” that the Packers move the star quarterback.
If any team were to make a deal for Rodgers, it would likely have to be agreed upon prior to the start of the draft on Thursday night, when teams like the 49ers and Patriots must decide whether or not to draft a franchise quarterback.
Per Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk, the Raiders and Broncos may be the most likely landing spots.
This could be a negotiating ploy by Rodgers in order to get a contract extension, although Schefter said on NFL Live that it is about more than that.
Per ESPN's Trey Wingo, Rodgers was told he would be traded in the offseason and has not been and things have escalated between the two sides since, with Rodgers telling the Packers he is not returning to the team either way.
Meanwhile, Packers GM Brian Gutekunst released a statement that the tam is committed to Rodgers for the future.
The Packer shocked many last year when they used their first-round draft pick on quarterback Jordan Love.
But after Rodgers won an MVP in 2020, it is clear he still has plenty of good years left in him.
If the Packers were to trade Rodgers, they would be better off waiting until June 2 when they will be able to save $22.8 million against the cap.
Regardless, the draft just got a whole lot juicier tonight. Stay tuned.
