The Eagles finally got on the board Thursday, agreeing to a deal with free agent safety Andrew Adams, according to a report from The Athletic.

Adams, 5-foot-11, 202 pounds, has been in the league for five seasons, spending the last three with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has totaled 136 tackles and six interceptions in his career, starting 32 of 73 games.

Details of the contract are not yet known, but it is unlikely a big-money commitment from the Eagles.

Here are 3 things to know about the Eagles’ first free agent signing:

*** Adams has been a backup most of his career, but has played well as a third safety, spending most of his time at free safety as opposed to in the box. He has been a full-time starter twice in his career, during his rookie season with the Giants and in 2019 with the Buccaneers. His best season came in 2018 when he picked off four passes in 13 games.

*** Adams is unlikely to be handed a starting job, but considering the Eagles lost Jalen Mills in free agency and Rodney McLeod could start the season the PUP, he should be able to get plenty of playing time early on with the Eagles. Adams bringing 73 games of experience is certainly a plus for the Eagles as their safety depth chart right now is filled with young, inexperienced players.

*** Adams is known as a strong special teams player, which likely played into the Eagles’ decision to sign him. He could take over the key role on special teams that Rudy Ford had last season.
