Philadelphia radio legend and SportsRadio 94WIP morning host Angelo Cataldi announced on Wednesday morning that he plans to retire in December 2022.
Cataldi, who has been on WIP since 1989, will remain on the air until then, but will begin working four days a week instead of five. He will be off on Wednesdays starting in January.
Here is what Cataldi had to say during his announcement, while taking one of his classic good-natured shots at Al:
"I am officially announcing that my final day at WIP with be December 2022. I will work one additional year as a sense of thanks to the people who have run this radio station and have been so good for me.”
“I’ve told you Rhea for the last five years, I wouldn’t have been able to make it without you. She is doing all the stuff I am no longer capable of because I’m 70 years old. Al, you haven’t done anything but you never did, so it’s not a problem. I am not going to be here everyday, so please don’t email me with guilt trips… I understand they like what they are hearing, I really appreciate it, that’s why I got to stay so long. 32 years is ridiculous!”
“Thank you WIP and above all else, thank you to the listeners for keeping me here so much longer than I deserve and so much longer than I ever expected."
Cataldi, along with Al Morganti, Rhea Hughes and the morning team, have been a staple of Philadelphia radio for decades.
Congrats on a legendary career Angelo!
