Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show was named Barret Sports Media's number one major market sports radio morning in the country this week, just days before Cataldi gets set to retire.
Begins at 15:37 mark
"If you like awards, announce about a year ahead of time that you are leaving," Angelo joked on his show on Thursday morning.
This is the eighth year that Barrett Sports Media has been running the award and the first time Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show has won the award, edging out 98.5's Toucher & Rich in Boston.
31 show were eligible to win and, according to the website, "voters choose their top 20 based on a myriad of factors including the ear test, originality, ability to entertain, multi-platform impact, on-air chemistry, and ratings success."
Cataldi, 71, is retiring next week after 33 years as the lead host of the WIP Morning Show. The plan is for his last show to be on the day of the Philadelphia Eagles' Super Bowl parade.
Replacing Angelo will be Joe DeCamara, Jon Ritchie, Rhea Hughes, and James Seltzer, while Joe Giglio and Hugh Douglas will take over on the 94WIP Midday Show.
