The Eagles have added another safety, signing Minnesota Vikings safety Anthony Harris to a one-year, $5 million deal, according to ESPN.
Harris, 6-foot-1, 202 pounds, has been with the Vikings since 2015, totaling 284 tackles and nine interceptions in 81 games. The 29-year old has been healthy throughout his career, missing just three games over the last five seasons.
Harris could end up being a steal for the Eagles, and is likely only taking a one-year deal to try to cash in next offseason when the salary cap is expected to be much higher.
The versatile safety is likely going to be taking over the role Malcolm Jenkins had with the Eagles, as he can line up and play in the slot if needed. Harris spent a ton of time in the slot with the Viking last season, allowing just one touchdown in 109 coverage snaps.
Here are three things to know about the Eagles' new safety:
*** How good is Harris? According to Pro Football Focus he has been the best safety in the NFL since 2018, grading out at 90.6. Harris had the franchise-tag placed on him last season with the Vikings, a sign of just how much they valued him.
*** Harris lead the NFL in interceptions in 2019 with six, returning one for a touchdown and picking off a pass against New Orleans in the Vikings' upset 26-20 win in the playoffs.
*** Harris comes to the Eagles having played for new defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon for six seasons during Gannon's time with the Minnesota Vikings. There is no doubt Harris' connection to Gannon helped land him in Philadelphia, as Harris likely thinks he can come to Philadelphia and increase his value playing in Gannon's defense.
