Celek on Ertz: 'All that stuff is in the past, he's ready to win games'

Brent Celek, who speaks to Zach Ertz on a weekly basis, says the Eagles Pro Bowl tight end has put all of the other stuff behind him and is ready for the season.

"I think mentally he's there," Celek told Jon Marks and Ike Reese on Thursday's 94WIP Marks & Reese show when asked about Ertz.

"I think physically he looks great. I talk to him on a weekly basis. Listen, he wants to win. I think all that stuff that happened in the past, I think is truly in the past. He just wants to move forward and win football games with his team. He loves this city man. He caught the game winner in the Super Bowl. He's never going anywhere when he retires."

Celek, who was a very successful tight end for his entire career, passed the torch to Ertz, who has also been with Philadelphia for the duration of his career.

Despite trade rumors throughout the offseason as Ertz, 30, heads into his final year under contract, he continues to speak about his love for Philadelphia and his desire to play for the Eagles, most recently as last week reiterating that this is where he wants to be.

After the 2020 season back in January, he even broke down into tears.

"He caught the game winner in the Super Bowl," Celek said of Ertz. "He's never going anywhere when he retires. I think he's ready for this year. He looks really good. I think him and Dallas [Goedert] together, as a combination—tell them all the time, they're the two best tight ends in the league as a combo and hopefully we can get them a lot of balls."
