Hugh: Bryce Huff needs to demand more 4-point stance

Former Philadelphia Eagles defensive end says Bryce Huff needs to demand to defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, or maybe even Howie Roseman, that he is used more as a four-point stance pass rusher.

"Bryce if you listening, you need to go into Vic Fangio's office tomorrow—now I don't condone violence, don't do that," Douglas said on Thursday's 94WIP Midday Show. "And if he don't want to hear you, you need to go to Howie and you need to tell Howie this is how I need to play. Now I'm willing to learn, but damn it this is what makes me successful and take it from there. You're making 50 some-odd million dollars. Somebody is going to hear you that's writing checks because you need to produce. Go in and tell Vic you better start using me the right way or I'm going to stop being nice about this."

Huff admitted that he's more comfortable and productive rushing from the four-point stance, something he did "one hundred percent" of the time while he was with the New York Jets.

"I want to [rush from the four-point stance more] but like I said it depends on the scheme and whatever my coaches see for that specific play or week," Huff told 94WIP's Eliot Shorr-Parks. "I talk to my coach and he's just like, 'Yeah, whenever the scheme allows hop into four-point, so.'"

Douglas told the story of when he was traded to the Eagles before the 1998 season and Philadelphia's head coach Ray Rhodes wanted him to switch from right end to left end.

"When I came to Philadelphia, when I got paid," Douglas explained. "Ray Rhodes was like, Ay, we got Mike Mamula on the right end and you gonna play left end.' I was like, 'You can kiss my ass, I'm playing right end.' And he said, 'OK, but you've got to give us a moment to make that transition.' And that's what I did because at that point I had the power and I wielded that power."

Huff, 26, signed a three-year, $51 million contract ($34.4 million guaranteed) with the Eagles this offseason. However, through five games, Huff has just 0.5 sacks and 1 QB hit, both of which came this past Sunday against Cleveland where Huff played a season-high 54-percent of snaps and rushed more out of the four-point stance than standing up.
