Former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz is working with former NFL head coach Jon Gruden in Tampa Bay, hoping to return to the NFL, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Wentz, 30, will reportedly be open to a backup role.

Wentz's career has been in a straight decline, ever since he tore his ACL late in the 2017 season, which ended in Nick Foles replacing Wentz and leading the Eagles to the franchise's first Super Bowl.

Wentz was traded to the Colts in 2021 and spent last season with the Commanders going 2-5 as a starter with 11 touchdowns to nine interceptions.

Washington released Wentz in February.

Gruden, 59, resigned from his head coaching position with the Raiders after emails were uncovered which Gruden sent to then then Washington GM Bruce Allen from 2011 to 2018 using insensitive slurs.

This came just a few years after Gruden signed a 10-year, $100 million contract to be the head coach of the Raiders.
