There's seemingly always a team in the NFL that goes from really good to really bad from one season to the next and Colin Cowherd is picking the Eagles to be this season's drop off team.
"Offensive line is really, really old," Cowherd said on his FS1 show The Herd. "And the other thing is Nick Sirianni gave up calling and then they got really good. Uh oh, they lost both coordinators including the play caller Shane Steichen who is now coaching for the Colts. I know Eagle fan, you know you're getting back to the Super Bowl, but there is a lot of blinking lights here."
"Oh, the schedule by the way. 10 teams that made the playoffs on the schedule. Long trips, a lot of trips, great quarterbacks week after week after week.
"I think Philadelphia is really good, but there are some blinking lights. Old o-line, lose your OC, Jalen Hurts moves, schedule is brutal, no breaks in the middle, lost your best leading rusher."
Cowherd makes some valid points with Pro Bowl offensive lineman like Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson ages 35 and 33 respectively. The Eagles do have a brutal 2023-24 schedule, as their 2023 opponents have the highest 2022 winning percentage in the NFL.
However, losing Miles Sanders may not be an issue as the Eagles replaced him with DeAndre Swift and Rashaad Penny. And yes, Jalen Hurts runs a lot and was injured last season, but every NFL quarterback is susceptible to injury—that's just the nature of the game. There aren't many stand still QBs any more.
