Dawkins: 'DeJean is more confident than I was'

Brian Dawkins raved about Philadelphia Eagles second-year defensive back Cooper DeJean, admitting the youngster has more confidence than Weapon X had of himself as a rookie back in 1996.

"The first thing with Cooper that you see is that he's extremely confident," Dawkins told Hugh Douglas and Joe Giglio live from Dawkins' Driving Impact Celebrity Golf Tournament at Penn Oaks Golf Club on Monday.

"I was not as confident as him as a rookie. I was not confident in what I can do. He's confident in what he can do. And the other thing is that he's patient. He doesn't panic. He's very patient in his technique and he believes he has the tools to be able to stay hip to hip with guys consistently, and he does."

Dawkins says he loves the way DeJean responded after facing adversity for the fist team as a rookie last season, when Carolina Panthers veteran receiver Adam Thielen got the best of DeJean racking up nine catches for 102 yards on 11 targets in Week 14.

"It seems to me that he got better after that opportunity to learn from a veteran, to get handled a little bit by a veteran," Dawkins said.
