The NFL draft is just a week away and there are several names for the Eagles to consider at the No. 12 pick. With top end receiving talent like Kyle Pitts and Ja'Marr Chase expected to be off the board, many mock drafts have the Eagles selecting defensive backs, including Alabama's Patrick Surtain II.
However, there is some speculation that Surtain might not reach the Eagles pick. Here is what SI's Albert Breer had to say about the possibility of the Cowboys taking a cornerback in this year's draft:
"… I don't know if the Cowboys like Alabama's Patrick Surtain II more than they like South Carolina's Jaycee Horn—but I do know that corner is very much in play for Dallas at No. 10. Surtain may be the safest play of any in the draft, a rock-solid player with NFL bloodlines who, with a little luck, should be a starter in the league for a decade. Horn (also the son of a former NFL star) doesn't have the airtight tape Surtain does, but he brings more upside."
Earlier this week, COO Stephen Jones was clear as day talking about the Cowboys intent to take a defensive player at No. 10. Both Horn and Surtain are considered the top options at cornerback in this year's draft, and the Cowboys might also consider taking a defensive lineman like Micah Parsons. It doesn't come as a surprise either following a season the Cowboys allowed nearly 30 points per game.
At the same time, the Cowboys made an unexpected pick last year, taking wide receiver CeeDee Lamb after it was widely speculated they would add to their defense. Breer also mentions offensive line as a spot the Cowboys would add to with aging veterans like Zach Martin and Tyron Smith holding down the trenches.
