Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl defensive end Demarcus Lawrence got the trash talk started off on Thursday when asked about Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.
“Has he played us?” Lawrence asked, per David Moore of the Dallas Morning News. “All right.
“All you need to write is he hasn’t played the Cowboys yet, so we don’t know how good he is.”
Eventually, Lawrence refused to answer questions about Hurts.
Nick Sirianni was asked about Lawrence's comments on Friday.
Late Thursday, even thought the damage was already done, Lawrence joined our sister station in Dallas 105.3 The Fan to discuss his interaction with reporters, but this time he took the opportunity to give Hurts credit for his improved play this season.
"Oh ya, they can be overly aggressive. Talking about the same thing over and over. I ain't got time for it," Lawrence said on the GBag Nation.
"It's all over the film. The way he communicates with his offense. The way he's making progress in the passing game and the run game. And he's not making as many mistakes as he was last year. I feel like his game has improved, but the fact of the matter is he still has to face us."
On Thursday's 94WIP Morning Show, Eagles All-Pro center Jason Kelce discussed the rivalary and, what he called, polar opposite fan bases.
"Two polar opposites that have been in the same division that have played so many meaningful games of football together. You have the Philadelphia fan base which is this extremely localized die hard fan base that is authentic to all of them growing up together in this community and this environment that breeds authenticity," he said. "And you have the Cowboys fan base, which they have that in Dallas, but the majority of the fan base is built on commercialism and all of this pop culture, Lakers, Yankees type fandom that I think is the complete opposite of what the Philadelphia fan base stands for. And also you have the north and the south going into it. You have so many factors and different things that it's led to being almost a game of cultures and values, that I certainly feel and love to represent on the side I am on."
The 5-0 Eagles are 6.5 point favorites on Sunday night at the Linc against the 4-1 Cowboys.
