Giglio compares Embiid to McNabb, Douglas pushes back

Joe Giglio compared Joel Embiid to Donovan McNabb on Wednesday's 94WIP Midday Show.

"I think there some parallels to Joel Embiid now, Donovan McNabb about 20 years ago," Giglio said. "There were a lot of moments that Donovan came up short in big games and it hurt you guys. It just did. And there are a lot of moments that Joel Embiid has came up short in big games and it has hurt the Sixers."

Giglio's co-host is Hugh Douglas, who of course was a teammate of McNabb's with the Eagles. Douglas puts more blame on Andy Reid than McNabb for the Eagles coming up short during that tenure and says McNabb never quit during a game, unlike Embiid.

"I can't really argue that, but I feel like part of that is on Coach Reid and I love Coach Reid, but his inability to see where we were weak," Douglas said. "And to a man, I would think that most of the guys would tell you that played there—especially the defensive guys—we needed more offensive weapons. We needed a receiver. And I've had this conversation with Ike [Reese], we should have at least went to three Super Bowls and won at least two. At least one, we should have went to two and won at least one. And one of the blind spots that we had was doing the same thing over and and over again and having the same results.

"The fact that we failed was the offense sputtered at key times. And some people might blame that on the quarterback. If I was being honest, I would have to blame the first few years on Coach Reid's inability to see past that blind spot that we had offensively.

"The comparison with Donovan and Joel Embiid, I don't think that is the case. I played with Donovan. Donovan was a fierce competitor. I've never seen Donovan just quit and give up. Now, we can argue whether or not he threw up in the Super Bowl. To see Joel Embiid and James Harden with, like, right there in your hands. You had the ability to change the outcome of that game in Game 6 [against Boston]...You guys were walking up and down the court, I could never forget that. And I've never seen Donovan do anything like that."

Of course, 94WIP's Ike Reese—who also played on that Eagles team with McNabb and Douglas—chimed in on Twitter.
