It has been reported and speculated that the relationship between former Eagles head coach and former Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz soured over the last year, boiling up to Pederson's benching of Wentz for rookie QB Jalen Hurts.
Pederson addressed and explained his relationship with Wentz for the first time since his firing, on NBCSportsPhiladelphia's Takeoff with John Clark podcast.
"I do believe that there's a little misnomer out there that Carson and I were on such bad terms, and I've never felt that way," Pederson said via NBCSportsPhiladelphia.com.
"I understand where Carson's coming from because it's difficult," he continued. "When you're the starter and things like this happen, and you basically get benched. Our season wasn't going the way we wanted it to go and it's difficult. It's difficult for any player to go through that.
"I've always felt like I was going to do the right thing for the Philadelphia Eagles, but yet I understand what he was feeling and what he was going through. I know there was frustration there."
After the Eagles let go of Pederson, Ian Rapoport reported that Wentz was unwilling to return to the Eagles if Pederson remained the head coach.
Still, Wentz was traded to the Indianapolis Colts and is now reunited with former Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich. Reich helped Wentz achieve his MVP-type season in 2017 before tearing his ACL, which eventually allowed the Eagles to secure the No. 1 seed in the NFC and created a path for them to win the Super Bowl.
