Doug Pederson gives update on Alshon Jeffery rehab

There is lots of buzz around the wide receiver group coming out of Eagles training camp, yet the Eagles still expect Alshon Jeffery to join the group this season on his way back from injury. On Wednesday, Doug Pederson gave an update on Jeffery's rehab status:

"He's working extremely hard. He's doing his on-land running and we have increased that," said Pederson on a Zoom call with reporters. "He's looking really good and feeling really good. We are hoping to get him out there soon with the team at some point in the near future."

That's good news for the Eagles, who all offseason talked about getting Jeffery healthy and back on the field to be an active contributor to the offense. There was even suggestions that Jeffery would be "a major part of the offense" after he recovers from his Lisfranc injury.

The Eagles placed Jeffery on the Active/PUP list in late July. While he is unable to practice, Jeffery still counts toward the active roster. If he is not cleared to play before the start of the season, the Eagles can put him on the Reserve/PUP list which means Jeffery cannot play or practice with the team until Week 7.

This leaves a potential roster spot open for a younger wide receiver like John Hightower, Quez Watkins or Deontay Burnett, who have been impressing early on in training camp. Depending on the groups performance, it will be interesting to see how the Eagles bring back Jeffery into the fold.

Pederson did not offer a timetable for Jeffery's return but was happy with how he was progressing:

"I've been impressed with his workout, with his treatment and rehab. We will see what happens in the next couple of weeks but obviously wont put a timetable on him or make any decisions at this time."
