Report: Derek Barnett seeking a trade for more playing time

Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Derek Barnett is seeking a trade in hopes of landing somewhere else where he can play more, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

The Eagles reportedly plan to keep Barnett, but understand how deep of a pass rushing unit they have.

In addition to Barnett, the Eagles currently have key defensive ends Brandon Graham and Josh Sweat on the roster, as well as defensive tackles Fletcher Cox, Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, and Milton Williams. Plus, the Eagles have edge rushers at linebacker in last year's NFL sack leader if you include the playoffs in Haason Reddick and rookie Nolan Smith.

Barnett, 27, was the Eagles' 14th overall pick in 2017 and has largely disappointed, but has contributed throughout his five seasons with the franchise.

In 2022, Barnett tore his ACL in Week 1 against the Lions, ending his season.

Barnett has recorded 21.5 sacks in his career, including a season-best 6.5 in 2019. He also had two of his three career forced fumbles that season.

Barnett is notoriously known for committing unnecessary penalties.

Barnett has a base salary of $3.5 million this season and is set to become an unrestricted free-agent after 2023.
