It seems like a foregone conclusion at this point that Carson Wentz is going to get traded, likely sooner than later. Several reports surfaced late Saturday evening that a trade package for Wentz from the Chicago Bears included a first round pick and former Super-Bowl MVP Nick Foles.
Joe DeCamara has a message for all those dismayed by the idea of bringing Foles back: don't fear getting Foles.
"It would make the Eagles a better team to have Nick Foles."
"First off, you get back a top flight backup quarterback. He immediately becomes one of the best backups in pro football, and he would be the backup either to Jalen Hurts or if you pick someone with the No. 6 pick in the draft at quarterback, he walks in the door as a backup. You also have a great locker room guy, with a locker room that has had a lot of issues and divisions. For what it's worth, you also get someone who has a knack to play his best football in Philadelphia. Everyone on every side of this has an understanding that Foles historically played his best as a member of the Eagles.
"You are also talking about an organization that has so often needed a backup either because of poor play or injury. It happens so often. Just since 1991, when Randall Cunningham got hurt in Green Bay, to present day, 21 of the last 30 years the Eagles have gone to their backup quarterback, including the last four years!
"I have a chance to acquire one of the great backup quarterbacks of all time and I'm going to say no? Come on now."
Jon Ritchie disagreed with DeCamara, siting a regression in play from Foles over the last few years and also at the possibility of creating another quarterback controversy, calling the potential acquisition "a seed for destruction".
94WIP's own Eliot Shorr-Parks outlined the Wentz trade with the Bears and also gave his opinion on the return of Foles and what it would mean for Jalen Hurts.
