Earlier this week, 49ers kicker Robbie Gould told The 33rd Team that “if you make Jalen Hurts play quarterback, you’re going to have probably a pretty solid day on defense,” when previewing the keys to the Super Bowl.
So, after Jalen Hurts launched a dime to A.J. Brown to give the Eagles a 14-7 lead on Sunday night, Philly fans flocked to social media, armed with receipts.
Gould, part of a San Francisco team that was annihilated by Hurts and company in the NFC title game, was mercilessly trolled for his Hurts take after the Philly quarterback connected with Brown on a 45-yard strike on a ball that traveled 58.4 yards through the air, with a completion probability of just 17.5 percent, per Next Gen Stats.
Gould was also ripped for his take immediately after he made those comments, as Hurts was an MVP candidate this season and clearly had shown an ability to get it done through the air before Sunday night. But his throw to Brown certainly put a massive dent in Gould’s narrative.
