Eagles DC Jonathan Gannon among 6 coordinators likely to interview for head coaching positions

Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon could be in line for an NFL head coaching gig this season.

Joining Peter Schrager on Good Morning Football, NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero listed Gannon among six coordinators who could be interviewed for NFL head coaching opportunities as the regular seasons comes to an end in two weeks.

Gannon, 38, was criticized early in the season for his reluctance to blitz, as the Eagles defense struggled against some of the league's top quarterbacks. However, as the schedule has cooled off, Philadelphia's defense has stepped up under Gannon.

The 8-7 Eagles, winners of five of their last six and three in a row to put themselves in position to be an NFC Wildcard team, are 5th in the NFL in yards allowed (320.2/game) and 11th in points allowed (21.2/game). Philadelphia is a top-10 defense in both yards allowed through the air and on the ground.

Since Week 8, the Eagles' defense leads the NFC in points allowed.

Gannon, who played for Louisville before suffering a career-ending injury, started his coaching career as a Louisville assistant before becoming a quality control coach for Falcons and Titans, then a defensive backs coach for the Vikings and Colts, and eventually joining Nick Sirianni's staff as defensive coordinator.
