Lane Johnson's 'lateral ankle sprain' not expected to be long-term injury

Some much needed good news for the Philadelphia Eagles and its fan base came on Monday afternoon, as NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Lane Johnson has a "lateral ankle sprain" which is "not believed to be a long-term injury."

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo adds a source tells him, 'Don't be surprised if Johnson is back real soon."

The 5-1 Eagles host the 5-1 Dolphins on Sunday Night Football this week in one of the more anticipated games of the 2023 season thus far and, according to Jeff McLane, Johnson is "pushing to play."

The Eagles will head to Washington in Week 8 and then they will host the Cowboys in Week 9. Philadelphia's bye week is Week 10.

Johnson suffered the injury early in Sunday's game against the New York Jets, in which the Eagles went on to lose 20-14.

26-year-old Jack Driscoll, the Eagles' fourth round pick in 2020, was thrown into the fire and struggled on Sunday trying to replace Johnson. Driscoll allowed allowed eight pressures, six hurries and one sack in 43 pass blocks, according to Pro Football Focus via Jeff McLane.

The Eagles' 33-year-old All-Pro and Pro Bowl offensive tackle is one of the best players in all of the NFL and losing Johnson for an extended period of time would be a major blow.
