The Philadelphia Eagles will promote their quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson to the offensive coordinator role, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Johnson replaces Shane Steichen who was named head coach of the Indianapolis Colts about two weeks ago.
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said recently that he enjoyed the process of allowing the offensive coordinator to call plays last season, which allowed Sirianni to manage games better. Sirianni said the new offensive coordinator, now Johnson, will likely be the team's 2023 play caller.
Johnson, 36, spent the last two seasons as the Eagles' quarterbacks coach. He was the first QB coach Jalen Hurts was able to work under for two consecutive seasons throughout his entire collegiate and NFL career.
Under Johnson, Hurts had his best season in 2022, finishing with a 14-1 record and throwing for 3,701 yards, 22 TD, 6 INT while rushing for another 760 yards and 13 TDs.

Hurts was named to his first Pro Bowl and was the NFL MVP runner up to Patrick Mahomes. Of course, Johnson, Hurts and the Eagles came up short losing Super Bowl LVII 38-35 to the Chiefs.
Before working with the Eagles, Johnson worked at four different universities as the QB coach and/or offensive coordinator: Utah, Mississippi State, Houston, and Florida.
