The big news as the Eagles opened their voluntary offseason workout program on Monday morning was Jalen Hurts’ press conference, his first since becoming the highest-paid player in NFL history.

However, he got one more offensive weapon back in the fold, as the team also announced that tight end Tyree Jackson has signed his exclusive rights tender – one of two roster moves made Monday, the other releasing safety Marquise Blair.

Jackson, 25, was an exclusive rights free agent, a designation given to a player with less than three accrued seasons in the NFL who is on an expiring contract. It gives the team his contractual rights and, if tendered, gives him a one-year deal for the minimum salary, albeit a deal that is non-guaranteed.

A collegiate quarterback at the University of Buffalo, Jackson was undrafted in 2019 and played in the XFL in 2020 before signing a reserve/futures deal with the Birds and converting to tight end. He played 14 games in 2021-22, notching three catches for 22 yards and a touchdown – all coming in the 2021 regular-season finale – but he spent much of last year on injured reserve due to a torn ACL he suffered in that game.

Blair, 25, spent part of last season on the Eagles’ practice squad, and signed a reserve/futures deal with the Birds after the season ended. The former second-round pick out of Utah has played in 25 NFL games with the Seahawks and Panthers, including three with Carolina last year.

The Eagles have 71 players currently under contract, 19 below the maximum 90-man camp roster, so plenty of room to add their six draft picks and any other undrafted free agents this weekend.
