The NFL playoffs are still 10 weeks away, but as the scoreboard watching around the league begins, it is hard to ignore one potential matchup for Wild Card weekend.
Carson Wentz vs. Nick Foles.
As a result of a Chicago Bears' loss on Monday night, and a bad NFC East, if the playoffs started today Foles and the Bears would be coming to Philadelphia as the top Wild Card seed to play the NFC East winners in Wentz and the Eagles.
Yes, plenty has to happen between now and then to make the possibility a reality. The top thing might be Foles keeping his job, as the quarterback struggled on Monday night, and Chicago has already made a switch at quarterback once. The Bears also play in a very tough NFC North, and despite a 5-2 record, are no lock to make the playoffs.
The Eagles seem more likely to hold up their end and be ready to host a playoff game on Wild Card weekend. Despite standing at 2-4-1, the Eagles have the benefit of playing in the worst division in the NFL. With the Dallas Cowboys officially entering train-wreck status this past weekend, the team's path to the playoffs is far easier than the Bears' path.
If the current playoff standings do hold and a Bears-Eagles matchup does happen, however, there is little question it will be the best game of the weekend. Foles and Wentz have been debated in Philadelphia ever since Foles won Super Bowl MVP in 2017, delivering the first Super Bowl title in franchise history. A Wentz-Foles matchup would be arguably the most anticipated game this city has seen since they played in that Super Bowl.
Whether it happens remains to be seen, but one thing is sure — it is going to be one crazy week in Philadelphia if it does.
