Fletcher Cox believes Jalen Carter "probably should have been the number one pick" in this year's NFL Draft.
"Wow, the first time I've seen him in team drills...and just seeing how strong the guy is," Cox told Jon Marks & Ike Reese on Tuesday when asked about Carter, the Eagles' 9th overall pick. "The way that he moves. You see why he was—probably should have been the number one pick in the draft. He's special and I'm glad that he's here."
Cox, 32, signed a one-year deal worth $10 million with the Eagles in the offseason to return for his 12th NFL season, all in Philadelphia. He expects his role to stay the same.
"My role is my role," Cox said. "They know I'll be out there for my 40 to 45 snaps a game, that's always where they want me at and I don't see that number going down. The way that we practice, the way that they take care of us here and the way that we play, we rotate so much so hopefully I am playing 30, 35 snaps a game. That means we're winning, that means we're doing a great job."
Cox has spent his entire career playing alongside 35-year-old Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham, who also signed a one-year contract to return to Philadelphia this offseason.
"It's very special how much respect I've got for BG and vice versa," Cox said of his relationship with Graham. "And the biggest thing is, people probably get tired of hearing this, but he's been my locker mate for that long—12 years he's been my locker mate. We see eye to eye, but to us it's bigger than football. We talk about ball and things like that, but more it's family things. When he's down, I'm always there because I can feel his energy. When I'm down, he's always there because he can feel my energy...I enjoy being around BG."
