Fletcher Cox is entering his 10th year in the NFL and he's seen his fair share of talented players. When asked who is going to have a big season this next year, Fletch couldn't pick just one guy.
"There are going to be a couple, but I'll go with 1A and 1B," said Cox after the Jets-Eagles joint practice on Tuesday. "I gotta say Quez Watkins because I've seen this guy work his balls off all camp. He just wanted to come out and show everybody what he is capable of doing. I think he is doing a good job of it.
"[1B is] Josh Sweat. I've seen this coming and Josh is having a good camp. I expect a lot of good things from him this year."
Watkins has been on everyone's radar since he scored a 79-yard touchdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers during a preseason game earlier this August. The second-year wide receiver caught seven passes for 106 yards and a touchdown in 2020 but is poised for a big step forward. The 6th round pick out of Southern Miss is pushing for serious playing time after an excellent training camp.
Sweat, meanwhile, has improved in each of the last three years as an Eagle, posting 37 tackles, six sacks and three forced fumbles as a backup edge rusher last season. This year, the 6'5'', 251lb pass rusher is standing up to rush for the first time as a pro as a result of Defensive Coordinator Jonathan Gannon's new defensive scheme. He has been taking reps with the first team at defensive end.
