Giants release S Jalen Mills, should Eagles bring him back?
Should the Philadelphia Eagles bring back former Super Bowl champion winning safety Jalen Mills?
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Giants have released Mills, who was on the NFI list with a calf strain. Mills, 30, is reportedly healthy now and expected to draw interest around the NFL.
"Would be a good signing for the Eagles, who need depth at safety and veterans at cornerback," 94WIP's Eliot Shorr-Parks wrote on X. "Would also bring a toughness/personality to the defense they seem to be seeking this offseason."
Mills, originally a seventh-round pick by the Eagles in 2016, spent his first five seasons in Philadelphia, helping the team win the Super Bowl in February of 2018.
Mills, playing cornerback for the Eagles, recorded five interceptions in 63 regular season games before signing with New England in 2021 where he would spend the next three seasons.
Now, the Eagles may consider bringing Mills back as a safety. As ESP mentioned, Philadelphia could use some depth at the position with only C.J. Gardner-Johnson locked in as a reliable starter. 25-year-old undrafted Reed Blankenship will be in the mix for a starting safety role. The Eagles also converted veteran cornerback James Bradberry to safety.
