Philadelphia Eagles' pass rusher Haason Reddick is entering 2024 with a base salary of $14.25 million, but no guaranteed money and he wants a new contract.
94WIP's Howard Eskin lashed out on Reddick on Tuesday's 94WIP Midday Show.
"The money always goes up. Do you know how many guys in the NFL can say they've outperformed their contract. That's such bull crap, it's such nonsense, I'm so tired—'He's outperformed his contract.' And a caller just brought it up a little while ago—does anyone give any money back if they suck? No! They don't! Then shut the bleep up and play the game for $14.5 million! Think about how many people—I'm so pissed—how many people are making $14.5 million that listen or watch Haason Reddick? And I like the guy and he's a hell of a player. But shut up, play for $14.5 million, play hard, and get a new contract."
"It's ridiculous! I'm just so, so tired. That's such an old, tired, brutal, awful phrase—'He outplayed his contract.' You know, play this. Play for $14.5 million and shut up! That's it."
When it comes to Reddick's importance to the Eagles, Eskin agreed with Joe Giglio, who opened Tuesday's show stating that the Eagles need him.
"I still believe the Eagles need Haason Reddick for this team next season," Giglio said. "Whatever we think of what happened last year, he's still their best defensive player. If I'm going on the premise they're trying to win the Super Bowl, I can't move on from my best defensive player and say we're trying to win the Super Bowl. It doesn't make sense to me."
On Monday night, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported the Eagles and Reddick agreed to push back his one million dollar roster bonus from March 15th to April 1st, giving the Eagles some more time to make a trade with the April 25th-27th 2024 NFL Draft nearing.
Just about five hours before Super Bowl LVIII began, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Reddick, the Eagles' top pass rusher, has received permission to seek a trade and "could land elsewhere."
On February 13th, Reddick clarified that he never asked for a trade.
“I would like to get an extension done here at home. At no point did I ever tell the organization I want to be traded," Reddick said via B/R Jordan Schultz. "This is home for me. I was born and raised here. Two of the most fun years playing football in my life came here. I’ve cherished being an Eagle.”
Reddick, 29, is entering the final year of his contract, a three-year, $45 million deal he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in March of 2022. He has no guaranteed money remaining on his current deal.
The Camden, NJ native had a career-high 16.0 sacks in 2022 and five forced fumbles, plus another 11.0 sacks in 2023. Reddick added 3.5 sacks in three playoff games during the Eagles' run to the Super Bowl last year.
