Howie Roseman, Eagles don't make a trade at deadline

The NFL trade deadline came and went on Tuesday, and for the first time in three years, the Eagles didn't make a move.

Howie Roseman not making a trade is somewhat surprising, considering his team has a very clear path the playoffs despite a 3-4-1 record. With obvious needs at linebacker, running back, cornerback and offensive line, an extra veteran at one of those positions could have increased the Eagles' chances of making the playoffs.

At the same time, Roseman definitely wasn't in the position to make a trade like he has been in years past.

The Eagles are projected to be around $68 million over the cap in 2021, and with a roster built around older players, trading away any high-level draft pick was likely a non-starter for Roseman. The lack of moves around the league speaks to the high price tags that teams were placing on any player they were willing to move.

The Eagles chances of trading away a player took a big hit when both receiver DeSean Jackson and tight end Zach Ertz went on injured reserves. Both player don't seem to be in the team's plans for 2021 and moving either player could have saved the team cap space this season.

The Eagles will not look to win a very winnable and weak NFC East — something they should still be expected to do — even with no help coming via trade.
