The Eagles are in the middle of another quarterback controversy, and as of Monday, Doug Pederson is not yet ready to say who is in the lead.
Speaking to reporters the day after their loss to the Green Bay Packers, Pederson said he has not yet decided who will start between Carson Wentz and Jalen Hurts this upcoming Sunday vs. the New Orleans Saints.
"When I know," Pederson said, "You'll know."
Pederson did not say when he would be making the decision, but he next speaks to the media on Wednesday, which could be when we all find out who the team's quarterback will be moving forwards.
Pederson was clear in saying it was his decision, and he wouldn't be discussing it with team leaders or other coaches.
"It will be up to me," Pederson said.
Pederson did not want to get into what will go into the decision or whether he has discussed it with either player. He did say he wanted whoever the starter will be to get the majority of the practice reps this week, which means it seems he will decide by Wednesday.
The controversy officially started after Hurts came in on Sunday in the third quarter and immediately provided the spark the offense needed, completing a 34-yard pass down the sideline to Jalen Reagor. A penalty on Isaac Seumalo killed Hurts' first drive, but he brought the team down the field for a touchdown on his second drive, going 73 yards in nine plays, capping it off with a 32-yard touchdown pass to Greg Ward.
Wentz's struggles continued against the Packers, going 6-of-15 for 79 yards and a 57.4 quarterback rating before being pulled. Ironically his final completion went for 41-yards to Dallas Goedert, but it could have been a 90-yard touchdown if Wentz delivered a better ball.
Wentz now sits with 16 touchdowns, 15 interceptions and a quarterback rating of 72.8 on the season. Add in his six fumbles, and Wentz has turned the ball over 21 times this season. The Eagles have held onto playing Wentz much longer than other teams would, but at 3-8-1 and with the offense looking awful each week, a move being made on Sunday wasn't overly surprising.
The question now is what will the team do moving forward -- and if Wentz will get one more chance to turn his season around.
