Jason Kelce remains confident in Eagles: 'Still time to get better, division wide open'
Jason Kelce remains confident that Philadelphia Eagles can continue to improve and get to where they want to be by season's end.
"There are times in a season when things aren't going well," Kelce told Joe DeCamara and Jon Ritchie during his weekly Thursday morning (7:30-8:30am) appearance on the 94WIP Morning Show.
"The Super Bowl winning team last year, the Chiefs, arguably were not going to make the playoffs at one point last year. And then they go on to become the team that they were at the end of the season with Rashee Rice coming on and playing well. The difference, those guys' defense was lights out all season, but improvement happens. You're going to go through times where you're playing your best ball. You're going to go through times where all of the sudden things just aren't clicking for some reason.
"I think this [Eagles] team is really, really talented. I think both sides of the ball have shown games where they have been like dominating and then other games where they've really, really struggled. If we can time that up—it feels like the defense is trending in the right direction...If [the offense] can get back to running the football really well with Saquon. There's still a lot of time to get better, quite frankly in a division that's really wide open."
Kelce was also asked about the difficulty of dealing with the city of Philadelphia coming down on you, something head coach Nick Sirianni must handle currently.
"All that stuff is going to affect you," Kelce said of the outside criticism. "You have to really maintain a clear focus on what you have to do to improve it. Is that difficult? It is and some guys are better at it than others."
Through five games the Eagles are 3-2, but have not looked particularly inspiring in any of their three wins. Philadelphia is the only above .500 NFL team with a negative point differential on the season (-6).
They are currently 18th in the NFL in scoring (21.2 points/game), tied for 30th in turnover differential (-6), and tied for 28th in sacks (11).
