Jaws tells Joe & Jon the Eagles' defense has been the biggest surprise of the season

It’s a Jaws Tuesday on WIP Mornings, and this is the third time in four years the Birds have been 10-2 as we enter December, giving Ron Jaworski a lot to be thankful for on the week after Thanksgiving.

“I’m surprised, but I think the defense has been phenomenal; after that 2-2 start, what Vic Fangio has done in restructuring his defense to me was absolutely phenomenal,” Jaws said. “I quickly think about the Ravens game, just incredible tackling, especially in open space. The basic fundamentals of the game they've improved upon tremendously, so to me, the defense has really been a big improvement.”

That defense plus the RPO game coming back is what gave the Birds the win in Baltimore, in Jaws’ eyes.

“It seemed like that first quarter, the Eagles were finding ways to shoot themselves in the foot, but they went to the RPOs and they forced the Ravens defense to play sideline to sideline rather than end zone to end zone,” Jaws said. “I think it opened up some lanes for Saquon, and Jalen obviously made some good runs, but I would agree the RPOs really opened up the game. It was an excellent change of the game plan in-game.”

There were things to nitpick, like the offense really never seeing the field in the third quarter, but ‘you’ll have those points in the ebb and flow of a game, especially against a good football team,’ so it’s not too much of a worry to Jaws.

“The way the team is playing right now, I think they’re playing championship football,” Jaws said.
