Jeffrey Lurie on Jalen Hurts: 'Exactly what you want as an owner'

Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie spoke glowingly about the team's franchise quarterback Jalen Hurts.

"We've got a major star, 25-years-old, mature young man who has every skill set that you want," Lurie said when asked about Hurts during his annual press conference at the NFL owners meetings.

"As an owner of the team, this is exactly what you want."

After a breakout 2022 season which ended in a Super Bowl loss, Hurts had a down year in 2023 throwing a career-high 15 interceptions and leading an offense that seemingly collapsed down the stretch of the season, where the Eagles finished with just one win in their final seven games.

Lurie mentioned that Hurts has been in the MVP conversation for the majority of the last two seasons, as he was the 2022 frontrunner to Patrick Mahomes and the favorite through 11 weeks in 2023.

Lurie also spoke a lot about head coach Nick Sirianni and his decision to retain Sirianni.

When asked about Sirianni's job security heading into his fourth season with the team, Lurie said, "Every coach is in a high pressure situation. Nick has had a pretty spectacular first three seasons...There's no coach that isn't feeling pressure to perform."
