Former Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Hugh Douglas reacted to the report that Jeffrey Lurie is taking a "more active interest in football operations."
"That's not a good thing," Douglas said on Friday's 94WIP Midday Show with Joe Giglio. "That is not a good thing. You know what I remember, is when I really saw him around, is when they were about to fire Ray Rhodes [in 1998]."
Eagles beat reporter Jeff McLane is reporting Lurie's interest has heightened, as the team heads into Monday's playoff game losers of five of their six and rumors of another potential coaching change begin to swirl.
"Lurie is taking a more active interest in football operations," Eagles beat reporter Jeff McLane said on his Audacy podcast Uncovering The Birds. "What that means for Nick Sirianni's future is still too early to tell. Lurie is an involved owner, but he is typically is a more of asking questions type than the meddling kind. But when he sees fit, he will assert his authority."
On Friday afternoon, NFL insider Josina Anderson posted to X: "I'm told Philadelphia, at this time, is already considering some staff changes after the season (particularly on the defensive side), per league source."
If Lurie, Howie Roseman and the Eagles do indeed decide to move on from Nick Sirianni after just three winning seasons—all resulting in playoff appearances—it will be Philadelphia's fourth head coaching change since Andy Reid was let go on December 31st, 2012.
