The Philadelphia 76ers announced on Thursday that star center Joel Embiid has a left lateral meniscus injury.
Dr. Fotios Tjoumakaris, MD—a board, certified orthopedic surgeon with the Rothman Orthopedic Institute—joined the 94WIP Morning Show on Friday morning to discuss the injury, presented by NovaCare.
"Because it's the lateral meniscus over the medial meniscus, that often times you're going to be taking a way more conservative approach and probably avoiding surgery if you can, and taking that week-to-week approach would be my guess," Dr. Tjoumakaris told Joe DeCamara and Jon Ritchie. "And if he can't progress, than maybe surgery becomes an option."
