The Eagles are off to an 8-1 start for a second consecutive season and 94WIP afternoon host Jon Marks wants fans to sit back and appreciate this unprecedented stretch of success.
"I think all Eagles fans have to remember this: Right now what we're watching is unprecedented in franchise history," Marks exclaimed to lead his show on Monday. "From winning the Super Bowl, to where we are right now, they're 8-1 for two consecutive seasons. And that's not by luck, that's not because they have a weak schedule. That's because they're the best team in the NFL."
"This year we are watching, most likely, the end of careers of some of the best players we've had in franchise history," Marks continued. "From Jason Kelce...to Fletcher Cox getting 0.5 sacks and Brandon Graham, he didn't come back this year to be a coach on the field, he came back to contribute to another good defense. And limited snaps, he probably felt like he wasn't doing enough on the field...And you put him in a spot, the biggest spot of the game and he gives you a sack followed by a half a sack. That's a championship player that's an all-time franchise player...Nothing made me happier than seeing that guy in that moment do it again."
The 94WIP afternoon host then closed his opening thought with a clear message: "Before we bitch about how they're winning, and they're winning ugly, and it's not the same. Live in the moment for the second, this team is awesome. Alright?"
Co-host Ike Reese enjoyed the comments, to say the least.
"Did you get hit in the head over the weekend or something? I like it, I like it. We got a new Johnny Marks up in here."
The two began their Monday show this way after many had spent the day after the Eagles' massive 28-23 win over the Cowboys noting all the things the team still isn't doing well. There had been focus on the pass defense, on the offensive struggles late, on the Cowboys actually handing the game away and more.
But while Marks and Reese acknowledge this Eagles team maybe still hasn't put its best football game together, they want fans to still appreciate the 8-1 record and the continuation of what truly is the greatest stretch of success in franchise history.
