G.O.A.T. of Broad Street: Jon Marks' Top 5

Welcome to 94WIP's G.O.A.T. of Broad Street, where we will finally determine who the greatest athlete in Philadelphia sports history is. Remember, in order to qualify, the athlete must have played in Philadelphia in the last 50 years (1970). Please cast your vote here to help us decide!

G.O.A.T. of Broad Street is brought to you by A Better Financial Plan.

1. Mike Schmidt

548 Home Runs. Eight home run titles. Ten Gold Gloves. Three-time MVP. World Champion. Best third baseman in baseball history is also the GOAT of Broad Street

2. Steve Carlton

Lefty is often overlooked when discussing the best of the best in Philadelphia sports. He's one of the best left-handed starting pitchers of all time. Four-time Cy Young winner as a Phillie. 319 career wins, over 4000 strikeouts (4th All-Time), 7 All-Star appearances with the Phillies. In the Championship season of 1980, Carlton combined to go 27-9 with a 2.34 ERA.

3. Reggie White

The Minister of Defense would have been the GOAT if he would have played more than eights season in Philadelphia (Eagles owner Norman Braman made no attempt to re-sign him). In his Eagles career, White compiled 124 sacks, never finishing with less than 11 sacks for a season. In the strike-shortened 1987 season, Reggie finished with an incredible 21 sacks in just 12 games.

4. Julius Erving

Doc has too many accomplishments to list. Averaged 22 points in his 11 seasons in Philadelphia. Made the All-Star Game every year. Four NBA Finals appearances, finally winning a title in 1983. His style of play and athleticism changed the way the game was played. And we were blessed to watch it here in Philadelphia

5. Bobby Clarke

I'm guilty of often overlooking hockey, but there is no overlooking Clarke. The two-time Stanley Cup Champion was not only the captain, but also the teams best player. He holds team records in games played, points, assists, plus/minus and more.
