Kempski on Gannon: 'Don't think he was a big loss for Eagles'

Former Eagles defensive coordinator and close friend of Eagles' head coach Nick Sirianni, Jonathan Gannon, is coming back to Philadelphia this weekend to face the Eagles as the first-year head coach of the Arizona Cardinals.

PhillyVoice.com's Jimmy Kempski does not believe Gannon's loss was a big one, for Philadelphia.

"I think he was the number one reason they lost the Super Bowl, like I put him at the top and the probably rank some other things two to five," Kempski said of Gannon on Thursday's 94WIP Morning Show. "And obviously they just got steam rolled in that Super Bowl and it all ended badly. I think during the regular season in the two years that he was in Philly, you saw them dominate a lot of offenses that had bad quarterbacks and when they faced teams that had good quarterbacks, they never had an answer for them."

"2022, they obviously had a great season overall. They had a ton of sacks and they beat up on a lot of bad quarterbacks. Their schedule was a lot easier a year ago that it was this year. We've seen the defensive had a slide this year in a number of statical categories which was entirely predictable before the season began. But yeah I think the Eagles could certainly do worse than him as a defensive coordinator and they found that out this season, but at the same time I don't think he was necessarily a big loss when he left to become the Cardinals' head coach."

Sirianni talked about the return of Gannon to Philadelphia on Wednesday's 94WIP Morning Show.

Defensively, the Eagles have had their fair share of issues this season allowing 346.0 yards per game (20th) and 24.4 points per game (25th), while forcing just 16 takeaways (t-29th).

Sirianni even switched defensive play calling duties from new DC Sean Desai to assistant Matt Patricia just two games ago.

Gannon is 3-12 in his first season as Cardinals head coach. Only the Carolina Panthers have a worse record than Arizona.
