Mailata on 'tush push' being compared to rugby: 'It's bulls**t'

Jordan Mailata, who grew up playing rugby, gets offended when people compare the Eagles' "tush push" or "brotherly shove" to a rugby play.

"I think it's bulls**t, pardon my language," Mailata told Ike Reese, Hugh Douglas, and Eliot Shorr-Parks on Monday's 94WIP Player Lounge Show live from Chickie's & Pete's in South Philadelphia.

"I just think that rugby is much tougher than a QB sneak, in my opinion. To call it a rugby play, I think you're doing a disservice to the sport and the players that play rugby. I'm not for that just because of my history, just because rugby is a tough sport man...Don't get me started when they compare it to a scrum. What are we talking about? This is ridiculous.

"First off the scrum and ruck in Rugby is way harder than a tush push or Brotherly Shove," he said earlier. "Whoever started calling it "tush push" should be in jail. It's got nothing to do with the pushes, it's got something to do with the QB who can squat 600 pounds."

Mailata said the Commanders used a new strategy against the play, but to no avail.

"They had a new strategy yesterday, Jonathan Allen was lying...He was literally lying on the ground. I've never seen anyone do that."

Other NFL teams were stopped over and over this past week trying to do the same play.

"If you watch the film you can see other teams run it too," Mailata said. "It's tough man, I can understand why—I can see both sides of the argument. It's hard for me to say, to agree with the guys who want it gone. I learned it as a football move and all of the sudden now they want to bring up rugby?

"It's not unstoppable, it's not. It's not unstoppable, Ike."
