JuJu Smith-Schuster turns down more money, years from Eagles to stay with Steelers

Maybe the Eagles don’t have salary-cap issue after all.

According to an ESPN report the Eagles offered wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster a multi-year deal prior to his decision to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The report states the offer had more money than the $8 million he got on a one-year deal from the Steelers. The Baltimore Ravens were reportedly also involved.

Schefter followed up his report stating that Smith-Schuster's agent was the one who reached out and called the Eagles.

Even though Smith-Schuster won’t be signing with the Eagles, it is still very noteworthy the Eagles were in on the wide receiver.

Although they don’t have much cap space right now — under $5 million-or-so — an attempt to sign Smith-Schuster shows that for the right player they are willing to open up more space. The fact they were willing to do it for a receiver is also interesting considering the issues they have had at the position.

While most of the top receivers are now signed, one big name does remain as Kenny Golladay remains unsigned. Recent reports suggest he is looking for a deal around $18 million per season, but it is highly unlikely he will get that.

If the Eagles were in on Smith-Schuster, chances are they are following Golladay as well — and perhaps they will indeed be able to swoop in and get the No. 1 receiver despite the perception they don’t have the cap space to sign anyone.
