Hugh Douglas says yes, it is a 'make or break' season for Jalen Hurts

Is this a make or break season for Jalen Hurts?

"Yes," Hugh Douglas admitted on Friday's 94WIP Midday Show. "When you say make or break, what is at stake? They gave Jalen 250 million dollars...They went out and they did something that hasn't really been done in the history of the NFL—they paid two receivers very, very well.

"Then you turn around and you give Saquon Barkley the money that you gave him. So everything is loaded up for him to have success this year...When you look at Jalen Hurts and his skill set and what he's done in the past and the weapons that they put around. There's no way on God's green earth that this team shouldn't be less than a top five offense in my estimation."

Hurts signed a five-year, $255 million contract extension with the Eagles in April of 2023, which included $179.4 million guaranteed. He has respective cap hits of $13.55M, $21.77M, $31.77M, and $41.83M over the next four seasons before the Eagles have a potential out in the contract before the 2028 where they can save cap space, per spotrac.com.

However, a big contract extension did not stop Jeffrey Lurie and Howie Roseman from trading Carson Wentz in March of 2021, which is still in the back of everyone's mind.

Last season, Hurts threw a career high 15 interceptions, as the Eagles' offense sputtered down the stretch and the team lost six of their final seven games, including a blowout playoff loss at the Bucs.
