When the Eagles traded from No. 6 to No. 12, many fans felt the dream of adding Florida tight end Kyle Pitts was gone.
Not so fast.
In a recent piece for CBS Sports, NFL Insider Jason LaCanfora wrote that there is a belief around the league that if the Eagles move up from No. 12 it will likely be with either a quarterback or Pitts in mind.
If the Eagles move back up, the GMs I have spoken to believe it's for Pitts or a QB. Never rule anything out when it comes to the Eagles and potential trades.
LaCanfora is right that nothing should be ruled out when it comes to the Eagles and the draft -- the selection of Jalen Hurts last year in the second-round is certainly proof of that.
While it is possible the team moves up for a quarterback, the possibility of moving up for Pitts feels much more likely.
Heading into the week of the draft the top three picks seem to be a lock — the Jaguars will take Trevor Lawrence, the Jets will take Zach Wilson and the 49ers will take a quarterback, either Mac Jones or Trey Lance.
Things will start to get interesting at No. 4 with the Falcons, and that is where Pitts could start to slide.
If the Falcons pass on Pitts, perhaps either for a quarterback themselves or a team trades up for one, the Bengals would then have a shot at the Florida tight end. All reports, however, seem to indicate they are locked in on either LSU receiver Ja'Marr Chase or Oregon tackle Penei Sewell.
If the Bengals take Sewell, many think the Dolphins will jump at either Chase or Alabama wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. Would they change course for Pitts? It is possible, but they do already have Mike Gesicki, and could prefer to go with a true wideout over Pitts.
If Pitts falls to No 7, the Eagles could make a move. Going from No. 12 to No. 7 would likely cost a future second-round pick, especially if they are bidding against other teams. Sending out a future second would be costly, but with likely three first-round picks in 2022, the Eagles are equipped to do it if needed.
Being able to land Pitts after acquiring a future first-round pick to move down from No. 6 would certainly be some great maneuvering by Howie Roseman — if he can pull it off.
