The Philadelphia Eagles "have been among the most aggressive trade suitors" for Indianapolis Colts All-Pro running back Jonathan Taylor, according to Evan Massey of NFL Analysis.
Now, we're taking this with a grain of salt to be fair, as Massey—who has just 23,500 followers on X—is not someone who is likely to break news on NFL trades.
Nevertheless, it is interesting, as the Eagles have been discussed as one of the many possible suitors for Taylor, who was given permission to seek a trade this week after a tumultuous offseason with Colts owner Jim Irsay, who refuses to give JT a contract extension.
Howie Roseman, Nick Sirianni, and the Eagles' brass has a relationship with new Colts head coach—former Eagles' OC—Shane Steichen. Of course, the two sides were able to agree on a Carson Wentz trade a few years back, so there is a history there.
Indy is reportedly seeking a first-round pick, or multiple picks that are equal to a first-rounder in value.
Taylor is entering the final year of his rookie contract which is worth just $7.8 million over four-years and is unhappy he did not receive an extension this offseason. His 2023 cap hit is $5.1 million and his salary is $4.3 million, but the Colts could look to eat some of the salary to facilitate a trade.
After an incredible 2021 campaign where he accumulated over 2,000 scrimmage yards and 20 total touchdowns, Taylor played just 11 games last season after suffering a high ankle sprain in December.
The Eagles' current running back room consists of Rashaad Penny, D'Andre Swift, Kenneth Gainwell, Boston Scott and Trey Sermon. None of the aforementioned backs count for more than $1.9 million against the team's 2023 cap.
